‘Hundreds more victims of Windrush’
HUNDREDS more people could have been wrongly deported as part of the Windrush scandal, a report reveals today.
So far 164 people have been identified from 12 Caribbean countries. But the National Audit Office says the Home Office will not investigate 160,000 victims of Theresa May’s “hostile environment” immigration policy.
Audit office boss Amyas Morse said steps were being taken for the Caribbean community, but there was a “surprising lack of urgency” for other groups affected.
Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott said: “Ministers’ assurances that they are on top of this scandal are clearly worthless.”
The Home Office said the majority helped were Caribbean but others could apply. It will outline a compensation scheme next year.
