Time now for Plan B

-

SHE might still be in office, but even Theresa May herself can hardly think she’s still in power after three crushing, historic defeats left Parliament in chaos.

With the prospect of the PM’s Brexit plan being defeated next Tuesday rapidly increasing, these are significant days that will shape our country’s future for decades to come.

What happens next remains uncertain. The will of the people must be respected, but it was never likely that a calculating, party political Prime Minister such as Mrs May would be one to champion the national interest.

Cool judgment and rational analysis of the facts are needed to decide what to do next, as our jobs, businesses, public services, security and international clout are all at stake.

Weak and wobbly May has lost all authority. The false choice she posed, insisting that the only options were her deal or crashing out with no agreement, has been exposed as fiction.

Either the PM produces a Plan B, or MPs will do it after they’ve written her off for good.
