THIS could be a sleepy street in any number of scenic Scottish villages.

But Sherwood Crescent in Lockerbie was once the site of the worst terrorist atrocity ever seen in Britain. As the 30th anniversary approaches, these photos show how locals have rebuilt the town, and their lives, since December 21, 1988.

Eleven residents of the quiet street, aged 10 to 82, were killed instantly when the bombed Pan Am Flight 103 crashed down on Lockerbie. All 259 passengers and crew on board also perished.

The impact created a massive crater in Sherwood Crescent, but efforts to rebuild the village began within a year. Libyan Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was jailed for jailed for life in 2001 over the attack.

The Scottish government released him in 2009 on compassionate grounds.
