Mountain duo measure up

-

A HILL has been classified as a mountain after two ramblers remeasured it using GPS technology.

At 2,016ft Foel Penolau in Snowdonia is tall enough to be a mountain, yet the 85ft distance from the summit to its closest ridge denied it the status.

But Myrddyn Phillips, 57, of Welshpool, and Aled Williams found the drop is actually 104ft, taking it over the 98ft threshold.

Mr Williams, 32, of Porthmahog, said: “It is a very worthy addition.”
