NEW Wimbledon boss Wally Downes has had to make an apology for posting offensive tweets.

Downes, 57, sent at least one tweet mocking football’s Rainbow Laces campaign, which aims to fight homophobia in sport.

While coaching in India, he mocked the campaign in September, with a hashtag “£RainbowLacesTurbans”

Anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out has expressed its “serious concerns” over the posts.

Downes said: “I apologise for my use of social media – my comments were meant to be humorous but on reflection they were a mistake.”
