BREXIT VOTE: 6 days to go

-

J IF 318 MPs back Theresa May’s Brexit deal she will emerge victorious on Tuesday.

J The Tories have 315 MPs and she has a deal with Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party, agreed after last year’s botched general election.

J But she appears doomed to certain defeat, unable to cobble together the numbers to force her blueprint through the Commons. The DUP will not support the pact because elements of the deal would make Northern Ireland different from the rest of the UK.That alone strips away the PM’s stitched-together majority.

J In her own party, insiders believe up to nine Tory Remainers could vote against the deal, piling further pressure on the premier.

J And then there is the European Research Group, a seemingly innocent name for the Conservatives’ hardline Brexiteers. Scores of its members are set to revolt unless Mrs May conjures a compromise. Sources estimate up to 100 Tory MPs could vote against the deal.

J And while some Labour MPs may rebel against Jeremy Corbyn and offer their support, it is highly unlikely to be anywhere near enough to save the PM’s pact.
