Ryanair told: Pay up or see you in court
I got you this... ring, ring, ...Sorry, coming through Airline blocks strike compo
RYANAIR could be taken to court for refusing to compensate thousands of passengers disrupted by strikes.
Walkouts by the budget airline’s pilot and cabin crews this summer led to hundreds of flights being cancelled.
But it said the strikes were “extraordinary circumstances” and exempt from any claims.
The airline also ended its agreement with AviationADR – a body which provides alternative dispute resolution.
Regulator the Civil Aviation Authority yesterday called on Ryanair to cough up or face legal action. The airline cancelled about 650 summer flights, meaning the bill could reach €8million (£7.1million).
In May, Ryanair announced profits of £1.35billion. AviationADR has received 22,159 complaints about the firm in the first nine months of 2018. Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel, said: “The airline must do right by its customers.”
Ryanair said courts in Germany, Spain and Italy ruled strikes were an “exceptional circumstance”. It said: “We expect the UK CAA and courts will follow this precedent.” THIS cyclist has other things on his mind as he pedals obliviously through a couple’s romantic proposal moment.
Blake Martin, 25, spent months planning how to pop the question to girlfriend Shannon Keene, 24.
He picked a spot on a bridge in their hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, and even hired a photographer.
Blake said: I got down on one knee and this orange blur just zipped by and screamed, ‘sorry’.”
Shannon was not put off, however, and the happy couple will wed in 2020.
