NEW YEAR? MORE CASH

-

Fancy a pay rise in the new year? Now’s the time to start applying. But where should you head to? Liverpool, Southampton or Glasgow may be worth a shot.

Average salaries reached a 12-month high last month, rising an impressive 28.9% across the UK, according to the latest job market data from CV-Library.

The report, which compared November 2018 with the same month last year, found some cities have seen impressive hikes to salaries. The top 10 cities are: Liverpool – wages up 11.9% Glasgow – wages up 11.4% Southampton – wages up 11.1% Aberdeen – wages up 10% Newcastle – wages up 8.1% Birmingham – wages up 5.4% Leicester – wages up 3.4% London – wages up 2.7% Brighton – wages up 2.1% Leeds – wages up 1.8%

Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library, said: “This staggering increase in salaries is a result of the ongoing struggles facing UK businesses.

“As companies continue to try and hire talented new recruits, it’s clear from data that they’re pulling out all the stops, offering competitive salaries in a bid to secure the top talent. As such, professionals looking to make their next move should consider these key cities.”

The good news doesn’t stop there. There has also been an increase in the number of jobs being advertised – they’re up 8.7% year-on-year.

Biggins added: “If you’re among those adopting the New Year, New Me mantra in January, a new job could be the perfect way to kick-start 2019. Not to mention you could replenish your bank balance post-Christmas by securing yourself an impressive pay rise too.”
