Boris apology to Commons for breach of earnings rules
BORIS Johnson said sorry yesterday on the advice of Commons watchdogs for failing to declare more than £50,000.
The former Foreign Secretary offered a “full and unreserved” apology during a 35-second statement in the House.
The Committee on Standards said he “acted in breach of rules on registration of his financial interests by failing to register remuneration within the required timeSORRY Boris Johnson MP table on nine occasions”. This referred to £52,722.80 in total – comprising book royalties, free cricket ground trips and a weekly newspaper column.
The report read: “The number of late registrations suggested a lack of attention to the House’s requirements, rather than inadvertent error.” Mr Johnson said: “I accept the delay was a breach of rules. I’m grateful to the committee for recognising there was no intention to mislead.”
