Jungle a ‘life-changer’

-

ANNE Hegerty has called her time in the camp “a life-changing experience”.

The Chase star, 60, who has autism, told the Mirror: “I expected I’d need alone time. But I can get along with people better than I thought I could.

“It was just an exceptionally nice year, full of lovely people.

“I think it may have been a life-changing experience for me.”

And she joked that although the Governess from The Chase was brutal, “Anne Hegerty is a bit of a wimp and a bottler”.

Anne said she hoped the camp diet of rice and beans and forced exercise would kickstart a better health regimen. “I’ve lost about a stone. I’ll probably put it back on but people have been saying, ‘You’re going up the steps faster’.” Anne tried to quit the jungle after less than 24 hours but was persuaded to stay. She explained: “Autistic people have a thing called executive dysfunction, where you have to think your way through things and it can take ages. It took me two days to even work out I had a sleeping bag.” She added: “It’s a relief to be out and it’s lovely to have had a hot shower and wear something clean.”
