Pickets’ hope
The Shrewsbury pickets, including actor Ricky Tomlinson, have won a massive victory in their long struggle to overturn their convictions.
A full court hearing will now take place to look at whether there should be a judicial review into issues including the destruction of witness statements by police after their arrests during a 1972 building site strike.
“After campaigning for the past 12 years to overturn this miscarriage of justice we are nearly there,” says former picket Terry Renshaw.
A judicial review hearing is likely to be held in late spring. Campaigners said they wanted to thank trade unions for their “unwavering” support.
A hearing about the judicial review application will be heard in the spring.
