Hero geckos run on water
GECKOS have been called “superheroes” of the animal world with the discovery of how they run across water.
The feat involves several techniques, a study found.
The lizards rapidly slap their feet on the surface to create small air pockets.
Smooth, water-repellent skin seems to help them glide and they swish their tails for lift and propulsion.
Prof Robert Full, of the University of California, Berkeley, said: “They can run at a meter a second on water. Nothing else can – geckos are superheroes.”
