PM’s left dangling on Brexit cliff edge

- Edited by FIONA PARKER

■ The Tory Party is self-destructing but will not accept its fate. They are now at the mercy of Parliament because of their bad management and the Brexit shambles.

They have lost the faith of the nation because they don’t trust voters to rethink our future and how we trade with the rest of the world, and they are now in survival mode.

But the people have had enough. I believe those who voted for this government can now see the reality of its failure and are ready to make amends and get behind Jeremy Corbyn to rebuild this country.

Britain is ready for change and a general election. Jeremy Corbyn, prepare for government!

Reg Barrett, Southminster, Essex

■ If there were to be another vote on Brexit, will we also be allowed to have another vote every time our local or county councils do something we don’t like?

Or even get to opt for a new MP if the current one doesn’t vote the way we want in the Commons? People have the right to feel that their vote matters and that the result, whether others agree or not, should be upheld.

I hope that people will, like me, pay very close attention to how their MP votes in the upcoming Brexit showdown, and make sure they are accountable.

■ Now that we can see the cliff edge and what we stand to lose by leaving the EU, millions of British people are changing their minds about Brexit. Many others are concerned about their jobs, industry and research – the lifeblood of a prosperous nation.

Cameron’s government assumed a Remain victory would be a walk in the park and didn’t bother to put together real information about the implications for the country.

It meant that many people voted on single issues, such as immigration and the promise of millions of pounds for the NHS, with no concept of the wider picture. A second referendum would be truly democratic. Jeremy Baldwin, Bristol

■ In the current climate of mass crystal ball gazing, where every angle of Brexit is subjected to the detailed analysis of the “experts” and their doom-filled outcomes and predictions, one aspect seems to have been overlooked.

To my knowledge, no thorough analysis of the financial implications of a Corbyn/ McDonnell-led leftwing government has been undertaken. My personal view is that the effect would be 10 times worse than a no-deal Brexit.

Ken Price, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan

■ Sorry, Prime Minister, but you now face Hobson’s Choice. Give the people another vote or call an election. More than half the population feel they were lied to over Brexit and now believe the risks to the future of the country are far too great.

You proved your strength in standing up to your own party during the Brexit negotiations, now prove to us it is our best interests you have at heart and not those of the Conservative Party.

Mary Pester, Saltash Cornwall

■ The European Court of Justice’s advocate general has said the UK can decide to cancel its withdrawal from the EU without the permission of other member states. I thought one of the main reasons for Brexit was not being dictated to by the European Court of Justice. Ron Wilson Newcastle
