A Hotel for the Super Rich & Famous, BBC1

Some fine examples on BBC1 last night of people who have more money than sense.

There was the hotel guest who demanded 35 gallons of milk for their bath-tub.

I’m assuming they were planning to bathe in it.

If not I’d hate to have been the room service guy who had to deliver the cornflakes.

Then there was the lonely hotel guest who paid for a first-class airplane seat for their pet gerbil to keep them company.

The gerbil’s verdict? He felt the in-flight movie options were poor, but the nibbles were sensational.

OK, I made the bit about the verdict up just so I could do that

nibbles gag. To be fair though, this documentary was all about filling in the blanks.

No one involved seemed willing to name names or confirm prices.

Considering it was basically a free advert for the Corinthia Hotel’s newly refurbished rooms and restaurant, surely a spot of harmless tittle tattle in return shouldn’t have been too much to ask.

(And no, a few words from regular guest will.i.am don’t count. He’ll talk to anyone, that bloke.) The staff could at

least have identified the “film star” guest who wanted dinner delivered from her favourite restaurant, even though said restaurant absolutely does not do takeaways.

We weren’t even told which restaurant it was – although, luckily, they did let slip which dishes she ordered.

In unrelated news, did I ever tell you how delicious the Atlantic prawn and avocado salad is at The Ivy?

I’d send you one over but, unfortunately, I hear they don’t do takeaways.

‘‘ A bath full of milk? I’d hate to have had to deliver the cornflakes...
