Elton v Freddie: who will be Killer Queen?

- WATTS the GOSS

Elton John and legendary rockers Queen are being pitted against each other in the latest battle of blockbuster films.

I’m told Rocketman will feature some “very bold” sex scenes in a bid to be raunchier than the recent Freddie Mercury biopic.

Bohemian Rhapsody (starring Rami Malek as Freddie) was criticised for

“skirting over” Freddie’s AIDs battle and gay relationships.

Taron Egerton,

29, who plays

Elton, tells me: “We have filmed some very bold scenes. There is lots of intimacy. It is 2018 and we are making a film about one of the biggest gay icons of the century. “You can’t shy away from that. You can’t shy away from it without compromising integrity.

“The Freddie movie is a different kind of movie. Ours is quite raw and dark. There is a bit more sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll.”

It will be in stark contrast to the recent John Lewis advert which showed Elton in a sugar-coated light. The music icon, 71, was notorious for his sexual promiscuity in the 70s and 80s, confessing that everyone was bisexual to a degree. He said: “I just think people should be very free with sex – they should draw the line at goats.”

On a trip to Russia, he also had sex with a KGB agent who had been working in his entourage. Saucy. He admitted: “I went to Russia in 1979 and I had an interpreter that they’d clearly set up. I ended up having sex with him on the hotel roof.”

He surprised everyone on Valentine’s Day 1984 by marrying Renate Blauel, a German recording engineer. They divorced after four years, the same year he told Rolling Stone magazine he was “comfortable being gay”.

Bohemian Rhapsody is now the biggest music biopic ever, grossing £423,110,548 at the box office. If anyone can top that, Elton can...
