‘Add HPV to cervical test’
CERVICAL cancer screenings should include HPV tests after it emerged that the infection can trigger the disease, scientists say.
A study found women testing positive for certain HPV types but having no cell abnormalities had a higher cervical cancer risk.
Prof Sonia Andersson, from Karolinska University Hospital and Institute in Sweden, said: “These findings strongly indicate that testing for HPV needs to be incorporated into screening programmes.”
