BRITS are bracing themselves for snowfall, as a cold snap from Iceland sweeps across parts of the country.

Lows of -5C were predicted by the Met Office for parts of Scotland and northeast England.

Snow is likely to hit higher ground in Scotland, before moving south later this week.

The Met Office’s Marco Petagna said:

“It turns colder with air from Iceland, and looks cold until midweek in the East. Temperature expected in Scotland and northeast England Peak District

Widespread frosts and the chance of freezing fog are expected, with Monday morning down to -5C in Scotland and -3C in northern England. Gales or severe gales, with gusts up to 60mph in the west, are expected into next weekend, with further rain and snow in the North, mainly on hills.”

Central and southern England are expected to escape the icy blast. Temperatures could hit double figures with rain forecast in the far west and parts of eastern England tomorrow.

Met forecaster Becky Mitchell added: “Temperatures will be around average but it will feel colder in the wind. Some motorists will need scrapers to clear their windscreens.
