COOK GAFFES ARE FORGIVEN

- BY DARREN LEWIS

STEVE COOK has been backed by his Bournemouth team-mates after he suffered a nightmare afternoon at the hands of Mo Salah’s Liverpool.

The Cherries defender tried and failed to foul the Egypt star ahead of Salah’s second goal. Cook also inexplicably back-heeled past his own keeper to make it 3-0 to the Reds.

Cook, 27, a key man in Bournemouth’s rise to the Premier League from League One, was then outpaced by Salah, before the forward netted his third goal of the afternoon.

Cherries team-mate Charlie Daniels said of Cook (with Salah, below): “He has had a tough day, but has been an integral part of our rise. He has been brilliant for the whole journey we’ve been on.

“He has had a bad day, but take one bad day out of an amazing seven years and we’ll take that.

“Liverpool are very good. If you give any of the top sides chances, they are going to score. That’s what we did.”
