Thousands counter EDL ‘hate march’

-

A BREXIT march led by far-right activist Tommy Robinson was dwarfed by a huge counter demonstration yesterday.

The English Defence League founder joined around 3,000 supporters and UKIP members for the rally near Parliament Square.

But 15,000 took part in the response led by Labour’s grassroots Momentum group.

Momentum national co-ordinator Laura Parker said: “It is a huge blow for Tommy Robinson and his vile, hate-fuelled politics.”

Mr Robinson’s supporters called for Brexit, with one brandishing a noose he said was for Theresa May.

The counter-protest included songs and dancing, and chants of “Nazi scum, off our streets”.

Scotland Yard said three people were held for a public order offence, assault and possession of an offensive weapon respectively.
