Lawrence team built the forensics case

-

THE team that nailed two of Stephen Lawrence’s killers built the scientific case against Russell Bishop.

Eurofins Forensic Services was recruited in 2012, and senior scientific advisor Roy Green was asked to inspect the original exhibits.

A Pinto sweatshirt discarded by Russell Bishop was linked to him by DNA while fibre, paint and ivy transfers placed it at the scene.

Tests on a sample from Karen’s left forearm also revealed a “one in a billion” DNA match to Bishop. Mr Green found 13 fibres on the top matching Karen’s sweatshirt and four that matched fibres from Nicola’s jumper.

Stephen’s 1993 murder was the most famous double jeopardy case, leading to a 2012 conviction of Gary Dobson and David Norris. Eurofins, then LGC Forensics, found fibres and hair from the teen on their clothes, plus a speck of Stephen’s blood.
