The children’s brave mum, Michelle Pearson – Sandra’s daughter – suffered severe burns and was in a coma for months after the attack. She remains in hospital. “She’s just up and down, really, with constant infections,” Sandra said. “We all go to see her at different times. She phones me every day. She’s been talking about the build-up to the one-year anniversar­y.”

Later today, the family will “light up” Jackson Street, in Walkden – the scene of the murders – with candles.

They have invited local people to join them for the special event, during which they will hold a minute’s silence to remember the siblings.

However, Michelle, 37, will be unable to go – three months after she was forced to miss her children’s funerals for medical reasons.

After finally coming out of her coma earlier this year, Michelle was initially shielded from watching the news in case anything on the fire cropped up.

She has only recently been able to accept the loss of her beautiful children. “She still gets upset,” Sandra said. “Twelve months she’s been in there,
