Hospitals have said this winter could be even more difficult than last year’s as health trusts continue to grapple with high demand, workforce pressure, and fragile social and primary care. NHS Providers, the body representing NHS trusts, said in a report that improvements in delays for transfers of patients who were ready to leave hospital, and the potential for a less severe flu season this year, were not enough to mitigate other pressures.
