■ I am sure Boris Johnson is preparing for a Conservative leadership contest, judging from his smart new haircut on Sunday morning’s Andrew Marr Show. While the top of Boris’ mop is still blond, he seems be allowing it to go grey at the temples to give himself a more statesmanlike look. Arthur Murray Portsmouth

■ The BBC are considering scrapping the free TV licence for the over-75s, yet they earn a lot of money from selling global rights to their programmes.

We pensioners don’t get a lot of help, so come on Beeb, pay less money to some of your top stars and let the pensioners over 75 keep the free licence.

■ I was sorry to hear of the death of actor Peter Armitage, best known as Bill Webster in Coronation Street. I think it would be a fitting tribute if the character’s death was mentioned in the show at some stage. Mally Shields Beverley, East Yorks
