Drug killed dad four hours after prison release, say family

-

A DAD who got hooked on Spice in prison died from the drug just four hours after he was released, his family claim.

The heartbroken family of Adam Ramsden, 30, said he was introduced to the drug while in jail for snatching a cashbox from a security guard.

His dad Stephen, 55, said: “Adam got out of prison and went to see some friends and within four hours he was dead from Spice. He never came home to his family.”

Stephen, from Dewsbury Moor, West Yorks, said his depressed son’s crime was “a cry for help” and that he abandoned the cashbox containing £12,000 nearby.

He said dad-of-one Adam was a popular inmate at category C HMP Wealstun in Wetherby. He said he had “never been involved with Spice before”, but weeks before his release he had written to a pal that he was “on spizy daily” and seemed to be the only one who reacted badly to it.

Adam’s brother, Joel, 26, said he also jumped from the roof of the prison while on the drug and ended up in hospital after razor wire cut his arm on the way down.

Joel said: “He said he took Spice in his cell because it just knocked him out and passes the time. It’s stupid. There’s more Spice in prison than outside.

“I don’t want people to just think he was some druggy, because he wasn’t.”

Adam’s family is demanding officials act to stop the Spice epidemic in UK prisons.

Stephen said: “It’s a horrible drug and the Government need to act now.”
