Nuclear firm in ‘exposure’ court battle
SAFETY RAP Sellafield LAWYERS for the Sellafield nuclear plant have appeared in court after a worker was allegedly exposed to plutonium.
The plant faces one charge of a health and safety offence after an incident at its site on February 5 last year.
It is alleged that a male worker was exposed to the radioactive element as “a risk arising from working with a glove box” at the site in Seascale, Cumbria.
Glove boxes are sealed containers with integral gloves which let the worker handle objects kept in a separate atmosphere.
No plea was entered by lawyers representing Sellafield Ltd at the Carlisle crown court hearing.
