Bid to make dope legal is voted down
FAILED Norman Lamb TORY MPs have blocked a bid to legalise cannabis, after the current law was branded “inhuman”.
Lib Dem MP Norman Lamb brought the 10 Minute Rule Bill because, he said, current laws “hand billions of pounds every year to organised crime”.
But his bill failed to pass the first stage and was blocked by 14 Conservatives after 66 MPs voted against it and 52 for it.
Mr Lamb outlined the “hypocrisy” of alcohol being legal and taxed and said his Bill was “a rational alternative to this mess”.
He also said patients needing medicinal cannabis were routinely denied it by GPs.
But Tory MP Steve Double slammed cannabis as a “gateway drug”.
