The stars are lighting up the festive season with posts of their Christmas trees – from old-style bling to some new twists. New Top Gear host Paddy McGuinness’s one, decorated with golden bulbs, is so huge it has had to go outside.

Sam Lyle of Christmas tree firm Pines and Needles (www.pinesandne­edles. com) crowned Prince William and Kate’s traditiona­l tree tops with 10/10.

But footie star Jordan Pickford got a kicking for his decked with polar bears and a penguin, scoring only five.

So happy – until I get the leccy bill.” Sam says: “Is that a space rocket that’s landed in Paddy’s garden? We all love a light show and this certainly delivers. A little lean but the lights cascade makes up for it.” 8 10 Duke & Duchess of Cambridge Kensington Palace shared a picture of Kate and Wills’ huge tree. Sam says: “It may not quite have the Markle sparkle but the tree is as demure and stylish as they are. Palace aides went for glorious gold baubles and understate­d lights.” Megan Davison & Jordan Pickford Like one of her boyfriend’s on-pitch efforts, Megan has it covered. Sam says: “He might make all the saves for Everton and England but looks like Jordan’s other half hasn’t saved any decoration­s for anyone else. Their tree is absolutely covered – you can’t even see the tree. 5 Andrea McLean & son Finlay The daytime TV host shows she’s a real Loose Woman in the way she goes about her tree decor. Sam says: “Andrea appears to love a relaxed theme with a crazy variety of baubles and a scattergun approach to decorating.” 8 Ben Fogle Even adventurer Ben sometimes needs a little help – from his little girl – to reach the top of the tree. Sam says: “He looks to have incorporat­ed his travels in his tree, full of decoration­s that seem to come from far and wide. A real family tree.” 9 Peter Andre No Mysterious Girls working on this tree – just the singer’s wife Emily and daughter Amelia. Sam says: “Picture-perfect family tree. Fabulous shape with colour-co-ordinated decoration­s.”
