10.35pm Chair of the 1922 Committee Sir Graham Brady rings the PM to tell her 15% of Tory MPs have written letters calling for a vote of confidence. Wednesday 7.30am Sir Graham announces publicly the threshold has been reached. 8.40am Mrs May appears outside No10 vowing to fight “with everything I’ve got”. 11.06am PM’s car does lap of Parliament Square after driver misses gate.

12pm Mrs May faces Jeremy Corbyn in PMQs as half Tory benches cheer her on and other half sit in silence 12.40pm Mrs May skulks out of the Commons for crisis talks with MPs

5pm She meets DUP leader Arlene Foster to reassure her about the Northern Irish backstop and seek reassuranc­es the confidence and supply deal is still on. 5pm PM addresses 1922 Committee of backbench MPs and spends 40 minutes trying to win them over. 6pm Voting opens.

8pm Ballot closes.

9pm Sir Graham announces Theresa May has won the vote to cheers from supportive MPs.
