Cervical test blunder hits 3,600 more
THOUSANDS more women were not sent cervical cancer screening letters in a blunder by Capita.
The outsourcing firm was already investigating an “administration error” known to have affected almost 48,000 people.
It has now emerged a further 3,600 vital letters were not sent.
Most were invitations to have a smear test while others were meant to highlight abnormal test results.
Royal College of GPs chair Prof Helen StokesLampard said: “This is completely unacceptable.”
A spokesman for Capita, which has run a host of GP services since 2015, apologised for the mistake.
NHS England said: “There is no evidence of any harm having resulted from these issues.”
