Otherwise, unless, through our patronage, we stem the ongoing flood of both big and small retailers shutting up shop, we will be left with just supermarke­ts and shopping online.

■ I was dismayed to see that for all the positive steps to eradicate racism from football we still don’t seem to have moved on from the dreadful 1970s, as Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling says he expects abuse from fans (Mirror, Dec 10). I had the pleasure of meeting Raheem and his wife, and found him to be a very modest young man.

So, all you football supporters, don’t let these mindless yobs represent us, stand up to them and let’s drive racism out of our game. S Jaspal Leamington Spa, Warks

In response to Lorna Twaddle who feels sorry for Ashley Roberts (Your Voice, Dec 11), I’ve watched Strictly from the start and it was supposed to be for amateurs. I have voted Ashley off and I think Faye Tozer should go too. If either win, the public will say the show’s a fix. J Lane Bebington, Wirral
