BIELSA KEEN TO KEEP THE ROOFE ON..

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

LEEDS UNITED want Kemar Roofe to stay at Elland Road and will open contract talks with their top scorer early in the new year.

The striker’s current deal expires in June 2020 and Leeds are keen to tie him down with new terms.

Coach Marcelo Bielsa and the club’s hierarchy are delighted with Roofe’s form this season and he has scored 10 goals in 15 Championship games to fuel their promotion push. They will open negotiations with the player’s camp after Christmas and will do everything they can to reach a settlement.

The 25-year-old (above) is understood to be happy at Leeds, but wants his new deal to reflect his standing in the team.

It is believed Roofe, who cost £3million from Oxford United in 2016, wants parity with the club’s top earners. NEW Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is planning a mass clear-out in January. Midfielder Steven Davis and keeper Fraser Forster (left) could go. Striker Manolo Gabbiadini may also be sold.
