VAN DIJK AIMING FOR DOUBLE TOPS

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

VIRGIL VAN DIJK has told Liverpool fans to sit back and enjoy the ride – because it’s time to dream with their team.

The Reds came through a nerve-shredding Champions League decider with Napoli after a huge scare in added time when keeper Alisson came to their rescue. Van Dijk believes the strength of character shown by all of his team-mates, and the passion produced by the Anfield crowd gives Liverpool a chance of going one better and lifting the trophy this season. And the Dutchman also reckons everyone connected to the club must dream about having a dart at double honours.

Van Dijk (left with scorer Mo Salah) said: “It’s a great time to be a Liverpool fan or player. It’s tough but enjoy it and embrace it – these are the days you want to experience as a footballer and we are.

“The double is something that we all want – and it’s something that we are going to give everything for.

“We want to play on the highest level and the Champions League, other than the Premier League for us, is the highest level.

“You need to have dreams, you need to go for it. Otherwise, why would you be a footballer?”
