Massive search for gunman who killed two

-

A HUGE manhunt was continuing last night for the Islamic terrorist who killed two people at a French Christmas market.

Hundreds of police, soldiers and border agents in France and Germany were trying to trace Cherif Chekatt, 29.

As police launched a public appeal it emerged the killer had been jailed in Germany and was meant to be under surveillance after a string of robberies.

He screamed “Allahu Akbar” before opening fire with an automatic pistol in Strasbourg on Tuesday night, killing two people, leaving another “brain dead” and injuring 11. He evaded two attempts to arrest him and fled in a taxi, despite being shot in the arm in an exchange of fire with soldiers patrolling the market.

As police began to arrest friends and family members who may have assisted him, there were growing fears that Chekatt had managed to flee abroad.

“After serving his sentence in Germany he was deported to France, where he was technically under surveillance,” an investigating source said.
