We hunger for change

-

FOODBANKS are expected to hand hungry families more than a million emergency parcels this Christmas.

Many recipients have been reduced to poverty by this Government’s cruel benefit cuts and the botched universal credit roll-out.

The fact that people have to rely on foodbanks should be a cause of national shame.

Yet, incredibly, Tory MPs regard these vital charities as a photo opportunity.

Dozens have added insult to injury by posing for the cameras at foodbank donation points.

Instead of trying to promote their profiles, they may want to think why so many families now rely on the generosity of others.

These MPs are all members of a governing party which voted to slash welfare by £13billion and pushed ahead with UC despite admitting it will leave millions £200 a month worse off.

It is their administration which has overseen a 70% rise in homelessness with the number of kids living in B&Bs up 11% since 2011.

If these MPs really cared about their constituents they would spend less time engaged in a self-indulgent civil war and more time addressing hunger, homelessness and poverty.

By laughing all the way to the foodbank, all they do is show how out of touch they are.
