THE WEAKEST OF THIS WEEK
It’s been a revealing week in Westminster. The Prime Minister limps on. But her attempts to portray herself as a valiant, heroic character are badly damaged.
Not only did she bottle a vote to save her own skin, but now we know she’s the kind of woman who’s happy to wheel out two Tories suspended over sexual misconduct allegations to vote for her.
Meanwhile, there was something apt about Theresa May awaiting her fate in Committee Room 14 at the House of Commons. It’s often used by people lobbying MPs and I’ve been there so many times listening to testimonies from disabled people in poverty and hungry families – and with Grenfell survivors – people there as a direct result of her Government’s policies.
To see her there pleading her own fate seemed fitting.
