We’re a laughing stock over Brexit

-

■ THE carry on in Parliament over the past two weeks has been unforgivable. The Government is not only bringing itself down, but taking our standing in the world down with it. When our politicians get their act together again the first thing they must do is cancel Brexit until they can sort it out properly.

Then, in the refurbishment of Westminster, may I suggest they rip out the outdated debating chamber with its drawn battle lines, and build one which has members sitting in a non-aggressive manner like the semi-circular Scottish Parliament.

Unless MPs start behaving like sensible adults we don’t have a chance in this modern world – and people like me will stop voting. Eddie Fidler, Oxford

■ Is Britain ruled only by selfish and arrogant MPs? It would have been far more admirable in the beginning for politicians of all parties to be united, instead of all this discontent. Could anyone have done any better than Theresa May? Had all parties stood with her in the early days then we could have ended up with the best deal for Britain. People have said if this ends with new a vote many won’t bother. The people have spoken and their choice was made, like it or not. Britain has become a laughing stock over Brexit and I feel ashamed of our politicians.

Mary Skuse, Bristol

■ It looks like Project Fear, regarding what will happen if we have a hard Brexit, could rapidly become Project Fact, judging by the chaos in Parliament this week. Theresa May and most MPs know deep down what is best for the national interest and that is to cancel Brexit. It’s now time for them to take responsibility and do what they were elected to do. They must put an end to this total waste of the last two and a half years.

■ So, Theresa May won her vote to stay in office to see Brexit through and off she goes back to Brussels to beg for a better deal. Europe, it seems, has a short memory. Don’t they recall D-Day when British, American and Commonwealth troops landed in France to push the Germans out of their countries?

In order to do this we had to borrow from the USA and only managed to pay off our war debt in 2006. We owe Europe nothing.

■ Can this shower in power get any worse? We have been strangled by austerity, they can’t run the trains, they are killing the NHS and we haven’t even got police on the beat. Let’s ditch Brexit, ditch the Tories and start again before it’s too late! CD Airey, Liverpool

■ Our politicians have let us down. We voted to leave, so they need to get on with it. We owe it to future generations. We need to control immigration, otherwise we will end with gridlocked hospitals etc.

Let us rule our country and attempt to put the Great back into Great Britain.
