Kiwis the heroes in Grace tragedy
Amid the bleakness of the story about backpacker Grace Millane being murdered in Auckland, a light shone into the decency of mankind. It came from the heartfelt words of sympathy sent from the investigating police chief and New Zealand’s Prime Minister to Grace’s family 11,000 miles away, and the vigils held by thousands of ordinary people across the land to honour her.
As her father David said, before bringing her body home: “Grace will forever be a Kiwi.” I’ve never seen a finer advert for a people, or a better reason to visit a country I’d previously had no inclination to visit, than this. MURDERED Grace Millane
