£100m rise a berry big hit
SPENDING on blueberries, strawberries and raspberries has risen £100million.
Blueberry sales soared 14% to £350million this year and strawberry sales were up 6% to £534million.
Trade body British Summer Fruits said growing under cover and using heating boosted UK supplies, lowering prices.
Blueberries’ superfood status fuelled the rise it said, adding: “Berries have become so popular as they are available year round at good value.”
