WAGNER: FOR AARON NO ROOS IS BAD NEWS

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

HUDDERSFIELD boss David Wagner has told Australia that Aaron Mooy has no chance of playing in the Asia Cup.

Socceroos coach Graham Arnold said he had not given up hope that Mooy (above) could recover from a ligament injury to play some part in the tournament in the United Arab Emirates next month.

Wagner is willing to let Australia seek a second opinion but is adamant the playmaker will be out until February. “If they want a second opinion, that’s their right,” he said. “But my medical department said he will be out for about eight weeks.

“This means for them he misses more or less the whole Asia Cup. If they want to bring some medical staff over to have a look at Aaron, they can.

“We have already given them our images from his scans and the reports from the specialist as well. It’s not good news for any of us.”

Wagner, whose side host Newcastle today, said he is surprised to see Rafa Benitez’s team struggling near the foot of the table.

“They have a lot of quality, a lot of experience, they have tall, quick players and let’s not forget they finished 10th last season,” he said.

“But they are in our area at the minute and hopefully after this game we will be closer to them.”
