INTER EYE MODRIC & CONTE

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

LUKA MODRIC and Antonio Conte are wanted by Inter Milan to build a team to challenge in Europe.

Former Juventus guru Beppe Marotta has joined the San Siro club as the new chief executive with a brief to overhaul the Serie A side.

Modric, 33, was linked with a move to Inter after the World Cup, and has yet to agree an extension to his Real Madrid contract, which runs out in 2020. Inter believe the Ballon d’Or winner (right) wants a final challenge in his career.

Coach Luciano Spalletti is under pressure after Inter crashed out of the Champions League – and former Chelsea boss Conte worked with Marotta at Juventus.

Marotta said: “There is a great desire to take Inter as high as possible. The club should be at the top of European football.” ASTON VILLA and Derby will go head to head to sign Chelsea starlet Ethan Ampadu on loan.

Both clubs wanted the 18-year-old Welsh international last summer but Maurizio Sarri would not let him leave then.

Villa’s Chelsea links extend to John Terry and on-loan Tammy Abraham.

Frank Lampard is in charge of Derby and they have Blues’ Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori on loan.
