FOOTBALL clubs were given special permission to turn the floodlights back on for Boxing Day and New Year Day fixtures. The use of lights had been banned by the Government as it attempted to save energy during the international oil crisis. All other matches were forced to kick off in daylight, badly hitting attendances.
