THAT Philip Hammond’s company contribute­d a pathetic £5,964 tax on £1.6million profits raises disturbing questions about the wealthy Chancellor’s commitment to firms paying fair.

The measly 0.4% effective rate might be legal but it is way below the 20% imposed on a bus driver, nurse or call centre worker.

Hammond can have no complaints when people ask if he is really going to crack down on loaded individual­s and big firms sidesteppi­ng tax when his personal interests appear to clash with the national interest.
