Nap risk link to dementia

-

PEOPLE who often take a nap during the day are more at risk of developing dementia, scientists say.

They tended to have more tau proteins that form tangles in the brain leading to the condition.

Older people not getting enough deep restorative sleep had more tau.

Prof Brendan Lucey, of Washington University, St Louis, said: “The key wasn’t the total amount of sleep, it was the quality.”

Sleep habits could be monitored to identify those at risk.
