SARRIES ARE GOLD STANDARD

-

SARACENS boss Mark McCall believes his side showed signs of old as they sealed a place in the Heineken Champions Cup quarter-finals.

Sarries became the first team to book their spot in the last eight after beating LYON 28-10 and can earn a home tie in the knockout stages when they face GLASGOW next weekend.

McCall said: “We haven’t won our pool yet and have a mighty game to look forward to against Glasgow.

“It was a really good team performance – it felt a little bit like old Saracens.”

Nick Tompkins scored two tries for the English champions with Jackson Wray and Ben Spencer also crossing. Owen Farrell added the extras for all four scores.

Glasgow were made to work all the way in a five-try win over CARDIFF. George Horne crossed to seal a 33-24 victory and give Warriors a chance of taking top spot in Pool 3.

Pool 5 leaders Edinburgh can secure a quarter-final spot if they beat Montpellier at BT Murrayfield. But Glasgow coach Dave Rennie said: “Our mates down the road can do us a favour if they win on Friday.

“But we have to go with the mindset we need to win.”

Cardiff head coach John Mulvihill had made 12 changes and said: “It took us a while, but we played some good stuff.”
