Cheryl & co told to clean up their act

-

GYRATING on bars and downing drinks from the bottle might sound like a good night out, but it’s not suitable for Saturday night family TV, say producers of The Greatest Dancer.

They have told choreographers to “tone down” Cheryl Tweedy and

Oti Mabuse’s dance on tonight’s semi-final show, comparing it to the film Coyote Ugly, saying it’s unsuitable for primetime TV.

The dance captains had planned to put on a raunchy performance alongside fellow coach, Matthew

Morrison, similar to the one in the popular Noughties film starring

Adam Garcia and Piper Perabo.

The movie was all about a group of barmaids at the Coyote Ugly bar who dance provocatively on stage for tips, but Greatest Dancer choreographers have been told the captains’ dance needs to be more PC.

An insider on the show said: “It was more like Dirty Dancing. Cheryl and Oti were wearing black outfits, but they whip them off to reveal scanty black leotards covered in 100,000 diamantes.

“The girls were throwing their legs around Matthew Morrison, who was gyrating his hips on stage. The producers worried it looked like they were recreating Coyote Ugly and they had to remind the choreographers it was a family show. They said it must be toned down before the live semi-final.”

The captains will be joined on stage by the Strictly Come Dancing professionals including married couple Katya and Neil

Jones as well as Pasha Kovalev who announced earlier this week he is set to leave the BBC show.

The insider continued: “Strictly is the jewel in the BBC’s crown and it prides itself on being family friendly. They can’t be involved in anything too raunchy. Producers want the opening number to be a spectacle and impress viewers but it can’t be too X-rated.” ■ The Greatest Dancer is on BBC1 tonight at 7.35pm.
