JASON Donovan is returning to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat… this time playing the Pharaoh. The Aussie singer wowed after landing the role of loincloth-wearing Joseph in 1991, enjoying a sell-out 18-month run and a hit with Any Dream Will Do. As he returns to the London Palladium 28 years on, he is DAZZLER Jason as Joseph joined by Cilla actress Sheridan Smith, 37, who will be the narrator. It is thought the role of Joseph will go to a rising star.

Jason, now 50, said: “You never know the measure of a moment until it becomes a memory and what a moment that was for me. Joseph was a groundbreaker in 1991 and what a blast it will be to be back on the Palladium stage and be part of it all again with a new cast. I’m looking forward to breathing new life into Pharaoh and I’m so relieved he doesn’t wear a loincloth!”

Released as a concept album in 1969, the stage version of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, has been performed in more than 80 countries.

The new production is at the London Palladium for 11 weeks from June 27.
