Danny meets royal relation at awards
Gemma & Gorka DANNY Dyer wasn’t the only one who could barely Adam and Eve it when he finally met his long-lost “cousin Charlie” yesterday.
The Prince of Wales said learning of new relative “Daniel” during the Prince’s Trust Awards had been “interesting”.
Actor Danny, 41, told him during a lineup: “I’m in EastEnders. Just wanted to let you know we’re related as well. King Edward III is my grandfather – but I won’t go into it.”
And a giggling Charles replied:
“A very, very long way away.”
Danny learned of his ancestry on BBC hit Who Do You Think You Are? and fronted Danny Dyer’s Right Royal Family.
After meeting Charles, he joked about their family link while he presented a gong.
Host Kate Garraway asked if the day was an excuse for a reunion and he replied: “Well, when your cousin Charlie makes the call, you’ve got to help your family out.” He Prince with May & Ejiofor
Dan meets Charles yesterday then looked over to where the Prince was sitting, apparently having things explained. Sweeping his notes over his head, Danny joked: “Look at that, straight over his nut.”
Charles later said in his speech at the London Palladium: “The other thing I’ve found out today is I’ve discovered a longlost relation in Daniel Dyer.
“He told me he was descended from Edward III, which was interesting, so I must do some research.”
Danny said after the show: “I think I freaked him out a little bit. He had a good laugh though.”
The Prince’s Trust and TKMaxx & Homesense Awards, supported by the Mirror, honour young people who have overcome huge challenges.
Other stars there included actors Chiwetel Ejiofor and Katherine Kelly, Queen guitarist Brian May and Strictly pair Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez.
