£3m fine for train horror
A RAIL firm must pay £3million in fines and costs after a boy suffered devastating injuries.
The youth, now 18, had his legs amputated and lost seven fingers in 2013 after suffering 80% burns from 25,000-volt overhead electric equipment.
He climbed on a wagon at DB Cargo’s Tyne Yard in Birtley, Gateshead, which had no warning signs, Newcastle crown court heard.
DB’s David Ethell said later “improvements to security” had been made.
