STRIKER LIGHT LAMPS NEEDS MORE UP FRONT
Derby County 0 Stoke City 0
FRANK LAMPARD cut a frustrated figure as Derby crept back into the top six.
This was a second home draw in five days for the Rams and the failings of a side which has scored only three goals in six games was evident again.
Lampard (left) saw Jack Butland demonstrate why Gareth Southgate still wants him in his England squad.
Derby dominated and hit the woodwork twice but could not find a way past Stoke’s No.1.
Duane Holmes struck the post in the first half and was also denied by Butland, who pulled off saves from Tom Huddlestone and Harry Wilson into the bargain.
Stoke almost bagged all three points in the 76th minute when James McClean’s flying header thumped a post.
But the game almost boiled over when Potters sub Ashley Williams was cautioned for a block on Wilson. Williams clearly felt the on-loan Liverpool playmaker had gone down too easily.
Stoke skipper Ryan Shawcross was also booked with a minute left for a crunching challenge on debut boy Jayden Mitchell-Lawson.
Wilson hit the top of the bar from the resulting free-kick.
