UP THE ANTE
NEWSBOY’S 1-2-3 1 EPATANTE 2 POSH TRISH 3 MY SISTER SARAH
EPATANTE is already very smart and there’s lots more where that came from.
Originally trained in France by Armand Lefeuvre, Epatante won two bumpers, including a Grade 1 at Saint-Cloud in November 2017.
She caught the eye of JP McManus, who purchased the five-year-old for an undisclosed fee – unlikely to be chicken feed – and sent her to trainer Nicky Henderson.
Highly touted for her British debut, at Kempton in November, Barry Geraghty’s mount pulled like a mustang but still scored by a cosy three and a half lengths.
Epatante went off at 1-6 to follow up at Exeter last month and hardly broke sweat to record the same winning margin.
An honest pace here will help this going-places mare, who is expected to remain unbeaten since crossing the English Channel.
